The Constructions.
I felt that my forms were getting lost, fragmented, fugitive. I felt compelled to start isolating and simplifying my images, while at the same time, continuing to work with the same kind of organic visual vocabulary I had been developing. I made three constructions in 2004. Each form is a plywood cut-out, clad in painted sheet aluminum and attached using screws and basic hardware. All three of them are small, less than three feet in any direction.
I like these constructions a lot. I can't explain why I had to clad the forms the way I did. It was trial and error, really. I got whatever it was I was trying to achieve, but the process was tedious and not much fun. I have another series of constructions in the back of my mind. Maybe I'll make them later this year.
